Flight delays are painful, but they can also present new opportunities.
We were delayed 5 hours out of Rome, forcing us to spend a night somewhere between London and our village in Wales.
We decided to stop in Stratford-upon-Avon and give ourselves a day to soak up a bit of Shakespeare history and some pleasures of being back in England.
Juliet, Cressida, Ophelia.....
Lovely Tudor buildings.
Of course there was a wonderful bookshop.
Seeing the Complete Works of Shakespeare took me right back to early days in Wellington, and seeing my older sister's copy tucked away on the top shelf of our bedroom closet.
Trinity Church, where Shakespeare was baptized, and is buried.
School girls practicing for a service.
I loved seeing their straw hats lined up on the pews.
Shakespeares' birthplace, home and garden
and the location of his later home.
You know you are back in England, when you see a very British bakery shop window like this!
